Trying my hand at sewing =)

Someone tell me I am not alone in the fact that their kids are constantly outgrowing or ripping out the knees of their pants.  I think my daughter is harder on pants than any boy I know!  I get her a few pairs of pants for school and by the time December hits, all of them have holes in them.  Usually I just make them into shorts, but she has a ton of shorts from last year that fit her (she is tall and skinny so her pants usually end up too short before too tight so she can wear the shorts for several years).  Then I found this idea that was originally for an adult but I figured I wanted to let her be the guinea pig first.

(I also made the shirt....just iron on decals =)  )

I am new to the sewing world.....well, maybe not new exactly....I took a sewing class when I was in high school....but do you expect me to remember things from that long ago?  If you want to know how pathetic I am, I had to have Teresa come over and show me how to thread the sewing machine (I am borrowing it from my sister-in-law).  Okay....I'll wait until you're done laughing...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................You missed a tear........................................................................................................................................

If you've caught your breath than I'll let you know about one of my first attempts.  I saw this idea on the wonderful world of Pinterest (isn't that the only place to get ideas for anything anymore?)  I have been wanting to try it for awhile.  So I was sitting there folding clothes and I came across a pair of my daughter's pants with holes in both the knees and that were getting too short for her (other than the knees they were still in great shape).  My first thought was "time to cut them into shorts."  But then I paused and remembered  about the skirt.  I figured, what the hey.....it's not like I'm going to ruin any pants.....so I got to work.

It probably took me about 2ish hours.  But most of that was unpicking the seams.  Not too bad.  I will let you cruise on over to the website that I got the tutorial from because she explains it and took great pictures. Since I'm a newbie sewer I figured I would let someone who knows more about it explain it =)

(click on the link ^and it will take you there)

Here are the front and back shots.  Just ignore the seams that aren't quite straight....like I said, I'm new to this sewing bit so I'm still working on that.

My daughter loves it...especially since Mommy made it =)  and that's all that really matters, right?  and I have  a feeling she will be sporting more levi skirts in the future.....
